Emmy Awards 2023: ‘Succession,’ ‘The Bear,’ and ‘Beef’ Reign Supreme with Top Wins

At the 2023 Emmy Awards, “Succession,” “The Bear,” and “Beef” emerged as dominant forces, nearly sweeping their respective categories in drama, comedy, and limited series. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the event featured tributes to past and present hit shows, including reunions of series like “Cheers,” “The Sopranos,” and “Ally McBeal.” The audience celebrated presenter and nominee Christina Applegate, acknowledging her resilience in the face of multiple sclerosis. Niecy Nash-Betts received standing ovations during her acceptance speech for “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

“Succession” secured an outstanding drama series, with Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen each winning individual awards. Creator Jesse Armstrong and director Mark Mylod were recognized for the impactful “Connor’s Wedding” episode. Meanwhile, “The Bear” claimed outstanding comedy, with Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach earning accolades. Christopher Storer, the creator, also won for writing and directing. “Beef” emerged victorious in the limited series category, with Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, and creator Lee Sung Jin all receiving honours.

HBO led the networks with hits like “Succession,” “The Last of Us,” and “The White Lotus.” The final season of “Succession” received 27 nominations, topping all shows, followed by HBO’s adaptation of “The Last of Us” and Season 2 of “The White Lotus.” In the comedy category, Apple’s “Ted Lasso” led with 21 nominations, while Netflix’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” dominated the limited or anthology series categories with 13 nods.
