LP Reacts to Okupe’s Resignation, Wishes Him Well

221

Labour Party responded to Dr. Doyin Okupe’s resignation, the former Director General of Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, during the 2023 general election. Okupe resigned from his position, as stated in a letter to LP National Chairman Julius Abure on Monday, over ideological disagreements arising after the 2023 general elections.

Reacting to Okupe’s resignation from the party, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Obiora Ifoh, expressed that Okupe, a former spokesperson for past presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan, has consistently aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Therefore, the party expects that he will return anywhere he wants to be.

Ifoh’s words: “It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be.”

Acknowledging Okupe’s dedication to supporting the party’s cause during the 2023 general election, Mr Obiorah Ifoh wished Okupe success in his political pursuit, saying, “We wish him very well. We want to say that he is saying that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat.

“We wish him all the best in his future political pursuits. Though we saw the letter on social media, we have not received it officially”.
