Another terror unfolded in Yobe, Nigeria, as armed assailants launched a ruthless attack on a village, claiming the lives of 14 individuals, including Pastor Luka Levong of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) and the church treasurer, Maina Abdullahi.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying events as the attackers, in the dead of night around 1 am on Friday, wrought havoc, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.

Yobe, situated in Nigeria’s Northeastern region, has been a recurrent target for brutal attacks, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives. The recent assault further underscores the harrowing reality faced by communities in this region, plagued by incessant violence and bloodshed.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants not only took the lives of innocent villagers but also set ablaze the church, multiple residences, and vehicles, leaving the community reeling from the devastating assault.

Residents, who were caught off guard by the sudden and violent incursion, were forced to flee for their lives, seeking refuge in nearby bushes amidst the hail of gunfire.

“The victims were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Geidam,” shared a source, shedding light on the aftermath of the tragic incident, where the injured were rushed for medical attention following the merciless attack.

The landscape of terror in the region has evolved following the demise of the leader of Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad (JAS), Abubakar Shekau.

Reports suggest that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has been intensifying its hold on territories around Lake Chad, contributing to the escalating violence and instability in the area.

These killings are part of the numerous brutal attacks recorded in recent days in the country and have led to the call from different quarters and stakeholders for citizens to be given the right to bear arms and ammunition to protect themselves.
