Eleven Miners Trapped As Zimbabwe’s Redwing Mine Collapse

Eleven subsistence mine workers find themselves trapped in an underground shaft at Redwing Mine in Zimbabwe following a ground collapse that occurred on Thursday morning. Located 270 km west of Harare, the incident is believed to be triggered by earth tremors, as stated by Zimbabwe’s mines ministry. Metallon Corporation, the mine’s owner, has confirmed the incident and mobilized a dedicated rescue team.

Despite multiple attempts, the unstable ground conditions have impeded progress, emphasizing the need for prioritizing rescue team safety. Subsistence miners, engaged in unauthorized work since the mine’s corporate rescue in 2020, face heightened risks, highlighting the necessity for enhanced safety measures in such operations.
