Insecurity: University of Lafia Students protest and boycott exam

Students at the Federal University of Lafia have refused to take exams in protest of escalating insecurity after an attack on a student lodge led to kidnappings. 

The incident, occurring Wednesday night outside the campus, saw kidnappers seizing phones before dispersing upon the arrival of security personnel.

Shortly after, another kidnapping took place in a nearby residential area, resulting in the abduction of at least seven students.

President of the Student Union Government, Comrade Ibrahim Ismaila, highlighted the students’ frustration over these recurring incidents, leading them to exercise their rights by protesting on Thursday, causing heavy traffic disruptions on the highway.

Videos posted by X users showed the students blocking the road, chanting to protest the security situation around the school area and hotels.

Reports have it that security agencies have since been deployed to bolster campus security and intensify search efforts to rescue the abducted students.

However, emanating reports have it that the security operatives are using teargas to disperse the students from the protesting grounds.
