97th Oscars: Stephanie Linus To Head Nigeria’s Oscars Selection Committee Ahead of 2025 Academy Awards

Stephanie Linus is set to head the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for The Oscars. NOSC has also invited Nigerian filmmakers to submit feature films for the International Feature Film (IFF) category at the 97th Oscars.

The IFF Award honours a feature-length film produced outside the United States with at least 50% non-English dialogue. Submitted films must meet specific criteria set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), including English subtitles, particular shooting formats, and evidence of a theatrical release.

NOSC, accredited by AMPAS, is tasked with collecting, screening, and voting on entries to represent the country in the IFF category. In the 96th Oscars, Mami Wata by CJ Obasi was selected as Nigeria’s entry but was not nominated for the Oscars.

While Linus will head this committee, the returning members of the committee include Victor Okhai, president of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN); actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde; former DGN president Andy Amenechi; theatre practitioner Yibo Koko; writer and director Izu Ojukwu; film producer Emem Isong; director Dimeji Ajibola; writer and director Jude Idada; director John Njamah; and actress Meg Otanwa.

The 97th Oscars ceremony will be held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, and will be broadcast live to over 200 territories worldwide.
